Courtois reconsiders his future in the Belgian national team after being removed from the WhatsApp group

Thibaut Courtois, goalkeeper for Real Madrid and a symbol of Belgium, faces a moment of uncertainty after revealing his exclusion from the players' chat. Considering retirement, he now evaluates a possible return in November without guarantees of being a starter.

A different present with the Belgian national team

Thibaut Courtois, the starting goalkeeper for the Belgian national team since 2014, is going through a period of change. After being removed from the players' WhatsApp group, the goalkeeper contemplated leaving the team, but his experience in the 2026 World Cup made him rethink. Despite not having a secure place in the starting lineup, Courtois is willing to compete for his position and does not rule out a comeback in November, under the new management of Mark van Bommel.

Courtois and the battle for the Ballon d'Or

In an interview, Courtois supported Kylian Mbappé in the fight for the Ballon d'Or, highlighting his individual performance. While acknowledging that Lamine Yamal has the advantage of titles won, Courtois believes that Mbappé deserves the award for his season-long performance. The goalkeeper values the balance between collective and individual achievements in the award selection.

Expectations with the Belgian national team

Courtois is optimistic about the future of the Belgian national team under the guidance of Mark van Bommel. Following a positive initial gathering, the goalkeeper emphasizes the team's progress and positive outlook with the new coach. Despite the challenges, Courtois trusts in the team's potential to achieve their goals.
